What Spanish Classes in Playa del Carmen Actually Cost
Here are the real numbers, in pesos, with nothing hidden: enrollment is $1,200 MXN (one time) and monthly tuition is $1,400 MXN. That's it. No textbook fees — because there are no textbooks. No "materials package." No surprise charges at level changes.
We publish prices in MXN only, on purpose. Exchange rates move, and if you live here, you pay in pesos anyway — for rent, for tacos, and for your Spanish classes. Budgeting in the local currency is, frankly, lesson one.
What that tuition covers:
- Your group classes for the month, in person or live online
- Real-life class materials: menus, listings, actual conversations from around town
- AI practice tools used in class — role-play chatbots and pronunciation feedback
- The flexible route: pause when you travel, resume when you're back, no penalty
Before you pay anything, you take a free placement test and a trial class. You'll know exactly where you stand and what you're signing up for.
How the Program Works: 7 Levels, 60 Hours Each
The full route is 7 levels. Each level is 60 hours of class over 16 weeks, aligned with international standards — so your progress means something outside our walls too.
Roughly, here's what each stage gets you in daily Playa life:
- Beginner levels: introduce yourself, handle everyday exchanges, order food, ask for directions, read simple signs and messages
- Intermediate levels: hold detailed conversations, give real opinions, write a formal message to your landlord or a government office
- Advanced levels: debate, follow movies and podcasts, handle abstract topics, write professional reports — near-native comfort
Two things matter here. First, the full route is not mandatory. If you only need enough Spanish to run your daily life, take the levels that get you there. Second, you don't start at zero by default: a free placement test puts you exactly where you belong. If you can already survive at the taquería, you'll be placed accordingly.
Progress is measured by what you can do with the language — not by grammar theory you can recite.

No textbooks. That's not a gimmick — it's the core of the communicative approach we use. Instead of "Chapter 4: The Preterite," a class is built around a real task you actually face as a resident of Playa del Carmen:
- At the market: asking "¿A cómo el kilo?", negotiating, understanding the answer when it comes back fast
- With your landlord: reporting a leak, asking about the deposit, understanding your rental contract
- The CFE bill: reading your electricity bill, spotting the due date, asking why it doubled in summer
- At the pharmacy or clinic: describing symptoms, understanding dosage instructions
Classes use role-play, simulations, and information-gap activities where you have to negotiate meaning — the way real conversation works. Grammar shows up when you need it to complete the task, which is exactly when it sticks.
One honest note: yes, you study. We use a flipped-classroom model — you review structures on your own with digital resources before class, so class time goes to speaking, not to lectures. There's no shortcut around effort; there's just a smarter place to spend it.
In Person or Online — and a Route That Bends With Your Life
Every course runs both in person at our Playa del Carmen campus and live online — real synchronous classes with a teacher and classmates, not pre-recorded videos.
That matters because expat life here isn't linear. People fly home for a month. Visa runs happen. Work explodes. So the route is built to flex:
- Pause and resume: stop when life demands it, pick up where you left off
- Switch modes: in person while you're in Playa, online when you're traveling
- Start where you are: the placement test can drop you straight into intermediate or advanced if you've already got a base
Group options fit different situations too: general adult groups, executive scheduling for people who work, and dedicated groups for teens and kids — useful if you moved here with family and everyone needs Spanish, not just you.
Idiomarcui has been doing this in Playa del Carmen since 2019, teaching 5 languages — and Spanish for foreigners is taught by instructors trained in language teaching, not just native speakers winging it.
AI in the Classroom (the Useful Kind)
One thing that surprises new students: we use AI tools inside the course, ethically and with a clear purpose — lowering the anxiety that keeps most adults from speaking.
- Role-play chatbots: practice with an AI playing a demanding customer, a hotel receptionist, or a chatty neighbor. You get to make your mistakes in private, at your own pace, before making them with an actual human at the OXXO counter.
- Pronunciation feedback: speech recognition tracks your intonation and articulation and gives you personalized correction — so "perro" and "pero" stop being a coin flip.
- Personal study labs: you learn to build your own vocabulary lists and custom exercises with AI prompts, so your self-study targets exactly what you need — beach vendor Spanish, landlord Spanish, dating Spanish.
Research on language learning backs this up: safe, low-stakes practice environments reduce foreign language anxiety, and lower anxiety means you actually open your mouth. The AI never replaces the teacher — it multiplies your speaking reps between classes.
How to Book Your Free Trial Class
The path from reading this to sitting in a class is short:
- Step 1: Message us on WhatsApp at +52 984 879 0117 or call the Playa del Carmen campus at 984 879 0117. English is fine — obviously.
- Step 2: Take the free placement test. It's quick, and it tells us exactly which of the 7 levels fits you. No guessing, no starting from "hola" if you're past it.
- Step 3: Sit in on a trial class — in person or online — and see the communicative approach with your own eyes before spending a peso.
- Step 4: If it clicks, enroll: $1,200 MXN enrollment, $1,400 MXN per month, and you're in.
If you're closer to Tulum, we have a campus there too: 984 198 2768. Same method, same levels, same prices.
The honest pitch: the sooner you start, the sooner Playa stops being a place you live next to and becomes a place you live in.

How much do Spanish classes cost in Playa del Carmen?
At Idiomarcui, Spanish classes cost $1,400 MXN per month plus a one-time enrollment fee of $1,200 MXN. There are no textbook or materials fees, and the placement test and trial class are free. Prices are in Mexican pesos.
Do I have to complete all 7 levels?
No. The full route is 7 levels of 60 hours each, but it's not mandatory. Take only the levels you need for your goals, pause and resume when life demands it, or start directly at intermediate or advanced based on your free placement test.
Can I take Spanish classes online if I travel a lot?
Yes. Every course runs both in person at the Playa del Carmen campus and as live online classes with a real teacher. Many students switch modes — in person while in Playa, online while traveling — without losing their place in the program.
I already speak some Spanish. Do I start from zero?
No. You take a free placement test first, and it places you in the right level among the 7 — including straight into intermediate or advanced. Nobody sits through 'hola, me llamo...' if they're already past it.
Is there homework, or is it all conversation in class?
There is real study — Idiomarcui uses a flipped-classroom model. You review grammar and structures on your own with digital resources before each session, so class time is spent almost entirely on speaking and practical tasks, not lectures.
